Speaking from her office in Midtown, Hochul described the unease that has gripped the area in the aftermath of the attack. “I’m sitting in Midtown right now. My office is just a few blocks away and walking in this morning, and you see the security guards down there and everyone is just wondering, you know, is this is this a one-off? Could this happen again? I mean, that sense of security is shattered when someone comes from another state carrying an assault weapon designed only for battlefields, but using it, intending to use that to commit mayhem and mass murder in our cities.”
She blamed the continued availability of military-style firearms for enabling such acts. “This is happening because there are still assault weapons in our country.”
Hochul emphasized that inconsistent firearm laws across states undermine the efforts made by places like New York. “If every state had the same laws uniformly, you could not have a situation where we fight really hard in the state of New York to make sure that we have the toughest gun laws in the nation. We have the lowest of all the large states homicide rate by guns. New York City, New York State, has the lowest homicide rate by guns in the nation for large states, and that’s because of laws that are working. We want that same sense of urgency to go out across the nation.”
She wrapped up her remarks by urging Congress to reinstate a previous federal ban on assault weapons, which she credited with reducing gun violence during its tenure. “We had an assault weapons ban in our country for 10 years. It worked successfully. It lapsed under President Bush, and I say bring that back.”

This woman is a fool. Without being a politician, I can see the folly in this. All these bans accomplish is to make the legal ownership of these weapons illegal. That has never done diddly-squat to reduce gun crimes. There are enough guns in the illegal market to supply a few militaries of several large countries. Banning them from lawful ownership is futile. Buybacks are great, but do nothing inthe greater scheme. All this banter about limiting Second Amendment rights is stupid.
Yes, better background checks are a good idea. Yes, those with mental health issues should not be permitted to own weapons. Like people with certain medical conditions should not drive, some of those with emotional issues should not be permitted to have weapons. But let’s be smart about this. And Governor Hochul is being very, very unsmart.
Kathy is a cold hearted idiot ignoramus.
Guns only . protect good people.
Gun ownership is a human right.
If ur avlive u need a gum.
In COCAINE’s NY, if the assailant hadn’t killed himself, he would have been freed back into the streets already.
Wait. So the privileged white female Governor Kathy Hochul has armed protection 24/7 but the poor shlub taxpayers that pay her salary are not allowed?!
That’s how it is with everything. Politicians and public figures are well protected while we sheeple have to give up guns and protection.

Brilliant, blame the Federal government
She can’t even define what an assault weapon is. Which weapon is not an assault weapon? It’s a totally fabricated term used by liberals politicians to make some guns sound bad.
Also this statement is totally absurd; “assault weapon designed only for battlefields”. The AR15 is not military weapon. It is not a fully automatic “machine gun”. This woman has no idea of what she’s talking about. This attack could have been carried out with a handgun or even a knife. Then she would support knife control!
