bob-barrJust In: This Monday night, Rosh Chodesh Av/July 12, a massive community-wide rally will be held at Lake Terrace Hall in Lakewood on behalf of Reb Sholom Mordechai ben Rivkah Rubashkin. The special guest speaker at the event will be the Honorable Bob Barr, a former congressman and presidential candidate.

The greater Jewish community is still appalled by the excessive 27-year sentence handed down by Judge Linda Reade, and as the Rubashkin defense team continues to devote its efforts toward the appeal of the sentence, the Lakewood community will gather en masse to say Tehillim, hear divrei hisorerus, and receive an update on the case.

The event is being held with the endorsement and participation of the roshei yeshiva and rabbonim of the city, and will highlight the shocking saga in which a fellow Yid has been continually targeted. Tens of thousands around the country have already come out in support of Sholom Mordechai, and now Lakewood will hold its own second achdus event, which will feature noted speakers who will describe the pressing need for unified support.

The chairman of the event will be R’ Menashe Frankel. Divrei hisorerus will be delivered by Rav Ephraim Wachsman, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Me’or Yitzchok of Monsey. Divrei bracha will be delivered by Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha. The gathering will also be addressed by Rav Pinchos Lipschutz, publisher of Yated Ne’eman, and R” Getzel Rubashkin, a son of Sholom Mordechai.

The guest speaker, Mr. Barr, is a high profile, forceful advocate demanding justice for Sholom Mordechai, having published articles and held press conferences highlighting the disparities evident in the prosecution of Sholom Mordechai and the subsequent sentencing.

Mr. Barr will address the gathering with an in-depth message pertaining to the travesty of justice and the appeal process that Sholom Mordechai is pursuing.

  1. There is a section in Olam HaBa reserved for Rabbi Pinny Lipschutz and all the rabbanim, rebbes, and communities for this united front and extensive efforts on behalf of Sholom Mordechai. Hopefully, in their zechuyos and in the merit of SMR himself, his yeshuah will come quickly.

  2. Let the world know. We will not give up. I, for one, keep looking out for news about R’ Sholom Mordechai. I feel with him and his family in their tzar, and I look forward to the day that the truth comes out.

  3. To Dovid,

Because Shalit has a very good support base and doesn’t need 4000 chareidim congregating. What Shalit needs is a miraculous release from the murderous Hamas.

SMR on the other hand needs a lot of legal help (i.e. legal defense funding) and because chareidim are the only ones who stepped up to the plate, they have to keep the pressure going. If the Jewish Federations, and the secular Jewish establishment rise up to the occasion, I can assure you, the chareidim would be able to fight the sentence with a more relaxed vigor.

  4. We in Lakewood look forward to this event and hope and pray that it will be as successful as the previous events in BP and Monsey!

  5. To number Dovid, Number 3.
Though Number 5 answered you very well. I would like to add that what on earth has one thing got to do with the other. It’s like knocking people for doing chessed because why don’t they do chesed with someone else also.
I (and most of my asociates) were similarly shocked when on the week of the rubashkin sentencing a jewish publication wrote en entire article regarding Jonathan Pollard and the need to help him. Don’t get me wrong I’m fully behind Polard being freed, but I felt it served to diminish the plight of SMR.

  6. I agree with #8. Every time someone does a chessed, there is bound to be someone who asks, “Why didn’t they do it for Mr. So and So?”
And when rabbonim are makpid on one thing, they ask,”How come they tolerate x, y, and z, but don’t tolerate this?”

Instead of noticing what people don’t do, look at the good!
And if you feel not enough is doing for Shalit, who needs many yeshuos, ask Rabbi Shmuel Schwartz for guidance, and gather your own asifa. And if you do succeed, someone else will ask, “So, nu, why are you doing it for him and not Pollard?”

  7. Bob Barr is a noted Republican and Libertarian leader. Not one Democrat has come to the defense of Reb Sholom. We should remember this in November.

  8. Excellent points. One thing – and the best thing – we can all do is tefilla. All the news sites should have regular banner ads reminding us to daven for Gilad ben Aviva. Wish I could pay for it.

  9. #11:

Both Barr and Obama ran for President in ’08. Obama criticized AgriProcessors, Barr is helping Rubashkin. What a stark contrast.

  10. thanks for your quick repsond,

and for your great source of news, photos, videos, & more as always

Thanks from a long time reader & supporter
