A yeshiva bochur learning at Yeshiva Toras Chaim in Denver, Colorado was tragically killed after being shot by gunmen at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night outside the yeshiva’s dormitory.
The 19-year-old bochur was as Shmuel Silverberg who grew up in Cleveland. He has family, including grandparents, in Lakewood, with the levayah and kevurah to take place there.
At this point, authorities do not believe that the shooting was a targeted attack on the yeshiva and are continuing to search for the assailant(s).
Update: The bochur has been identified as Shmuli Silverberg z”l, a son of Rabbi and Mrs. Mordechai Silverberg of Cleveland. Yehi zichro boruch.
KDVR reports that the shooting was part of a deadly crime spree that began near Colfax Ave. and Grape St. at 10:50 p.m. with a carjacking. No injuries were reported there.
Next, a shooting and car jacking took place in the 1500 block of Lafayette St around 11 p.m. One person was critically injured.
That was followed by the shooting in the 1500 block of North Stuart St., near Yeshiva Toras Chaim, at around 11:30 p.m., claiming the life of Shmuly Silverberg.
Police are looking for three vehicles connected to the crime spree:
- 2018 maroon Honda CRV, Colorado License Plate: CGOW44
- 2020 dark blue Toyota Camry, Colorado License Plate: AGNZ29
- 1998 black Toyota Rav 4, Colorado License Plate: QFO701

The levayah will be held 11:30 a.m. in Denver, followed by a levayah and kevurah at 10:30 p.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street, in Lakewood NJ.
