House Doesn’t Plan To Vote To End Shutdown This Week

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) advised House members Thursday that a vote on a short-term spending bill to end the partial government shutdown is not expected to be held this week, pending any Senate action.

It appears likely that the partial government shutdown will continue at least until next week — and perhaps into 2019. The newly elected Democratic-led House is set to take office on Jan. 3.

The shutdown is propelled by a standoff between President Trump and Democrat leaders over $5 billion in the new budget to put up a wall at the Mexican border.
