SCENE 1: THE HALLWAYS OF THE BELZ CHEDER IN ASHDOD

Yanky had never been very much into learning. He was too busy worrying about the next time his father would get angry. Expertly he learned to hide his bruises, keep secrets from friends. Day after day he dozed through class, wishing he could do something more exciting.

That is, until he started Rebbi Einhorn’s class. Reb Einhorn was like anyone he had ever known. Something about his smile, his wisdom, his warmth, made school feel like a home away from home. Rebbi Einhorn exposed Yanky & his peers to Gemara for the first time, and they were blown away by the excitement & depth that could be within Torah shebaal peh.

When his parents got divorced, and his family was split up, times were hard. But he knew that when he came to school he’d have an exciting lesson, and a loving listening ear, with Rebbi Einhorn.

That exposure to learning and a compassionate father figure would stick with him for many years to come. This is the power of a Rebbi, and Aharon Einhorn loved every minute of it.

SCENE 2: AN ALLEYWAY IN THE BEIS YISROEL NEIGHBORHOOD OF JERUSALEM

Gittel cradles her baby, whose cries have risen to a shriek. “What does she need?,” asks husband Moshe.

“She’s hungry,” says Gittel, bouncing the child nervously. “We ran out of applesauce. All the leftovers are gone. The bank is overdrawn, I don’t know what to do.”

Moshe wrung his hands with stress. “Can you take out a bill with the grocery again?”

“They said they won’t let us take out any more until we pay back what we owe.”

The baby’s cries echoed off of the walls of their tiny apartment, as Gittel resisted the urge to cry herself. Suddenly, a knock on the door rung out.

Moshe went to the door and saw the best thing he could have imagined: A package from a chesed organization, left anonymously. Fruits, vegetables, and other essentials they could live off of this week. They thanked Hashem, and Gittel immediately started mashing up some pears for her little one.

With a smile on his face, R’Aharon Einhorn turned the corner, disappearing into a truck full of similar packages.

R’Aharon Einhorn had a tremendous impact on the lives of others through his teaching of Torah & his chesed volunteering. He always had a smile for his talmidim, and especially for his wife & 9 children, after a long day. Long days took on a new meaning when he was diagnosed with a particularly brutal case of stomach cancer.

R’Einhorn passed away last week at just 44 years old. A Chesed Fund page has been opened to help his widow, who is now jobless & weighed down by tremendous medical debt, take care of a large family without him. During his life, R’Aharon Einhorn’s chesed changed lives. With one act of chesed, readers can change the lives of his devastated children.
