Medical marijuana, a hotly debated topic that is continually researched. Many states in the US have legalized its use medicinally due to its special power to alleviate many distressing health problems from troublesome migraines to symptoms of serious illnesses. Whether you agree or disagree with this contentious cannabis plant, it’s worth discussing how it works.

What Is It?

Scientifically speaking, marijuana is a mixture of dried flowers from the cannabis sativa plant. A concoction of cannabinoids which give it its medicinal and psychoactive properties. Down on the street you may know it as, cannabis, pot, weed, MJ, dope, herb or green. Its potent smell is strikingly recognizable. It’s a sort of herbal, putrid grass smell. It can be rolled up and smoked in a joint and inhaled through a pipe known as a bong. It’s also edible and can be added to home baked goods such as brownies or cookies. Medically speaking, its chemical makeup has relief resonances that aim to stem the pain and anguish associated with severe health issues. Many see it as an alternative to some prescription medication on the market which are addictive, laden with nasty side effects or simply don’t work.

How Do You Obtain?

In the state of Missouri, the medicinal use of marijuana has been legal since 2018. However, you need a card in order to purchase from a dispensary. You can now apply for your card digitally online. To do this you need to source out a company that will give you a consultation with a licensed doctor. You will then have to provide some personal details, outline your condition, complete paperwork and then pay a small fee to have it reviewed and approved. The next step is to receive an email detailing how you access the registration system and then you’ll be able to download your card to your devices and/or print it. You can then take the card to your local dispensary. Bear in mind that the process is thorough, and you may need to be able to prove you have an ailment, illness, disease or condition.

What Does it Do?

It is recommended for an array of ailments and even chronic conditions or diseases such as, anxiety, arthritis, chronic pain, nausea (especially as a result of chemotherapy), cancer, AIDS, loss of appetite, multiple sclerosis, inflammation, insomnia, epilepsy, glaucoma, migraines, Crohn’s disease. The aforementioned cannabinoids that marijuana contains are similar to those present in humans which are involved in several bodily processes such as appetite, memory, movement and pain reception. The cannabinoids can, for example, increase your hunger levels. Then, on the other side to this, they can control nausea and vomiting in some patients undergoing chemotherapy as a part of their cancer treatment. Many who suffer from diseases that affect the muscles (such as multiple sclerosis) report that it can help to relax tight, stiff muscles and sooth spasms. Another benefit is that it can ease pain, which is a typical trait of many health problems we can experience these days. Mentally, it can help to reduce anxiety and encourage relaxation.
