A Ph.D. dissertation or thesis is the ultimate form of lengthy academic research which may also involve field and lab studies. It’s a huge amount of researched information submitted for inspection and verification by a team of experts and academics. These dissertations often have path-breaking research with far-reaching significance. Universities have set a formatting standard for Ph.D. dissertations so that they are easily understood and there is no confusion about their content. A Ph.D. scholar is expected to follow the formatting standards for writing and presenting his thesis. Often, universities provide a specimen copy of the formatting standards that need to be followed by Ph.D. students. You can ask the administrative assistant in your university for a copy of the formatting standards for your Ph.D. thesis. You should follow these standards to prepare your Ph.D. dissertation.

For your benefit, here we provide the formatting necessities for your Ph.D. thesis. Your university’s requirements would be by and large similar to these requirements.

But let’s imagine something happens and you have no possibility of writing your dissertation on your own. This is where dissertation writing services come in handy.

PAPER

You should use good quality A4 size papers. While composing your text, you should leave a standard 1-inch margin on all sides of the paper. You should write on only one side of the paper.

FONT SIZE

It may vary from university to university but 12 point font size for the main text and 10 points for footnotes are generally acceptable. You should justify the text both in the main copy and in footnotes.

LINE SPACING

Some universities ask for double spaced lines while some may ask for 1.5 spaces between the two rows of texts.

FONT

You should use a font that offers a full character set. For example, Times New Roman for English is commonly used for English language thesis. For other languages also, you can use Times font.

TABLES & PICTURES

You should put tables and graphs in your text where they belong, just next to the corresponding content. You should not use both text and big size infographics on the same page. The idea is that it should not look cramped. Your text, tables, and graphs are precious and they should be presented with due care and attention. The infographics should end on the same page, they should not run into multiple pages. The same care and attention should also be accorded to the images that you use in your dissertation. You should not use colored tables, graphs, and images. However, you can use bolded text and punctuation marks as necessary. If you think you cannot do without using some exceptions, you must consult your department’s administrative assistant.

PAGINATION

Throughout the thesis, you should use pagination including on annexes, bibliographies, and notes. Your thesis begins with an odd-numbered page on the right-hand side. Any new chapter should also begin on an odd-numbered page. If the previous chapter ends on an odd number, you should insert a blank sheet before starting a new chapter on the next odd-numbered page. However, you must also covert this blank sheet in your pagination, giving it the page number that it should get logically. You should use Roman letters for the pagination of the title page, acknowledgments, and table of contents. The pagination in Arabic letters should begin from the first text page. If you are going to use a computer-generated table of content, check it carefully to see if everything is fine about it.

TITLE PAGES

The title pages should follow the rules and templates of the institute including the fonts and paragraph style.

LANGUAGE CORRECTION

If you are submitting the thesis for language correction, it should be specified on the first inside page of your thesis.

THESIS ABSTRACT

You should place a summary of the thesis in about 300 words next to the title pages but before the Table of Contents

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Differentiate the main chapters from sub-chapters by using capital letters and indentation. Page numbers should always be in the same font size. Acknowledgments should come next to the Table of Contents.

PROOFREADING

For language and proofreading, a standard reference should be used in consultation with your supervisor.

FINAL TITLE

You should take the consent of the supervisor for the final title of the dissertation.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Your Ph.D. thesis is the culmination of lengthy and arduous research. But your thesis should not bear the brunt of it. Rather, it should reflect the sincerity and refinement of your approach to your research. Adhering to the formatting standards and preparing your thesis papers flawlessly would testify to your sincerity and hard work.
