Members of the Jewish community typically observe Tisha B’Av, the annual day of mourning, by fasting, reading Eicha, and going to shul. But on Sunday, more than 250 Jews spent the occasion under the searing afternoon sun across from the White House, protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

Some came in large groups from their synagogues, sporting matching T-shirts and signs that read “Never Again.” Others, like 87-year old Ann Ingram and her 59-year-old daughter, Julie Ingram, had never observed Tisha B’Av before, but felt compelled to mark the occasion for the first time this year.

In New York, approximately 100 people were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for blocking traffic at the West Side highway at an anti ICE protest, according to police.

  1. They are sick individuals who somehow never feel comfortable getting involved in Jewish issues but hav no problem meddling in non Jewish affairs to the detriment of other jews

  2. These are the “caring” liberal Jews who caused Jews so much trouble and bloodshed throughout the generations…

We authentic Jews are disgusted with their FAKE SHOW, pretending to care for immigrants.

These are the same individuals who will wish Arabs throw Israelis into the ocean (sha don’t give out the dirty secrets)

  3. Matzav gets it wrong again! Your headline “Hundreds Of Liberal Jews Mark Tisha B’av By Protesting ICE” is misleading. You make it sound like “Jews are liberals and hundreds of them where protesting.” Our Community knows the distinct difference between Jewish and Jewish wannabes aka. Reform, Reconstruction, Conservative, Homo, Feminist, and other Non-Jewish practices. They are the ones known to us as “Liberal Jews”. Your headline lumps us all together with these deviant forms of practice. Just look at your photo above: The guy to your left is wearing a “Rainbow Talis” representing the disgusting toeivahs!

  4. Hundreds Of Liberal Jews Mark Tisha B’av By Protesting ICE

The headline would be more accurate if it read as:

Hundreds Of Liberal Jews Make a mockery of Tisha B’av by using it to Protest ICE

  5. Amazing
    Jews who actually heed Yeshavayhu’s words from this past week’s Haftorah “לִמְד֥וּ הֵיטֵ֛ב דִּרְשׁ֥וּ מִשְׁפָּ֖ט אַשְּׁר֣וּ חָמ֑וֹץ שִׁפְט֣וּ יָת֔וֹם רִ֖יבוּ אַלְמָנָֽה”

    Kein yirbu Ashreichem Yisroel

    • Um…Here is an important rule of thumb for you.

The less a group cares about keeping what the Torah says in their personal lives the more likely they are to misunderstand and misapply it as referring to a code of action for a contemporary secular political question.

    • What type of liberal ireligous person pays attention to te haftorah?
We erliche yidden use that time to shmooz

and navi feh! we arent maskilim

Can you explain the connection between this posuk and our obligations in regard to American border/immigration policy?

I’m clueless. Explain clearly enough for someone as feeble minded as me to see the

And while your at it can you explain how and why we have the right to force our “religious” views on the American public? Whatever happened to separation of religion and state that liberals looooove to invoke whenever any hint of religious values is mentioned?

      • sure glad to help!
        Without question emes is right.

The Navi is telling us that Hashems’ number one concern is taking care of the downtrodden. He says Hashem isnt interested in shabbos, Korbonos (read the Haftora I know its in Navi but still important)

“And while your at it can you explain how and why we have the right to force our “religious” views on the American public? ”
the American public should not help downtrodden because Yeshaya said so. WE should (sorry if that isnt clear). OUR way of helping them is to lobby our government to let them in, because it is just, not becasue Yeshayhu said they should.
        hope that helps

        • I really shouldn’t respond because your mind is made up . I don’t appreciate gratuitous condescending comments like ” (read the Haftora I know its in Navi but still important)” but I will do so anyway for the last time

Like I knew you would, you are misunderstanding and taking the Posuk out of context.

According to both the simple meaning of the words and the elucidation given by the Rishonim the posuk clearly means having a non corrupt court system where everyone is treated fairly.

It doesn’t even remotely say that “Hashems’ number one concern is taking care of the downtrodden”

If anything one can argue the opposite. It is saying to NOT always side with the underdog. But truthfully it isn’t saying that either.

The late Herman Wouk once wrote that “by a secular Jewish congregation a rabbi’s sermon is a digest of whatever ideas the liberal publications are currently pushing with some vague misapplied references to Torah thrown in”

Your comment is an illustration of that observation.

          • “I don’t appreciate gratuitous condescending comments like”

nu nu, and the Navi doesnt appreciate you ignoring his words .

“If anything one can argue the opposite. It is saying to NOT always side with the underdog”
yes but youd be wrong, yasom and almanah are not thrown in because the navi forgot how to say “treat everyone fairly.” These were the people who were downtrodden and who we are commanded to support.
today it is the brown person stand up for him.

but hey don’t take my word for it, open a navi
