‘I Don’t Think She’s Antisemitic,’ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Says of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Tuesday, as the freshman legislator continued to face accusations of antisemitism led by President Donald Trump.

“I don’t think the congresswoman is antisemitic,” Pelosi said during an interview with CNN‘s Cristiane Amanpour.

Last weekend, Trump published a tweet featuring a video of Omar saying that Muslims had been treated as second-class citizens because “some people did something,” on September 11, 2001 — when the Al Qaeda terror group carried out attack that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people in New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC.

Omar has courted controversy on more than one occasion this year with full-throated attacks on American pro-Israel groups, whom she accused of being more loyal to Israel than the US — a long-established antisemitic canard.

But Pelosi said there was “no taint” of antisemitism in the Democratic Party.

“Just because they [the Trump administration] want to accuse somebody of that [antisemitism] doesn’t mean that we take that bait,” she told Amanpour.

Pelosi has been visiting Great Britain and Ireland this week to obtain a close-up view of the problems around the UK government’s proposed “Brexit” from the European Union. While in London, she met with parliamentarians who left the opposition Labour Party over the levels of antisemitism in its ranks, as well as Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

After her meeting with Corbyn, Pelosi tweeted that she was “[P]leased to have had a candid discussion with Jeremy Corbyn today about the direction of Brexit, Northern Ireland, Nato, acting boldly on climate, protecting human rights, and the necessity of forcefully confronting antisemitism and Islamophobia.”

  1. look who is calling the kettle black. but maybe pelosi is correct. ilhan omar may just be stupid. so why was she voted in, because they wanted an anti israel/jewish representative or they wanted a stupid representative? well, they got both

  2. So now Cobryn is Pelosi’s new hero and role model. I think Mrs. Plastic should do us all a favor and stay in England.

  3. Focus Nancy. Swasticas draw dinner to anyone who does not support our koshers.

The DNC is standing there with the dry magic marker. Have we had enough trash?

  4. I do not care if Ms Omar is antisemitic: given the number of Jews who (sadly) elected her, she should at the very least pretend not to be.
