‘I Will Never Be Detained’: Trump Defiant After Federal Indictment

In a bold public appearance, former President Donald Trump responded defiantly to his recent indictment on 37 counts related to mishandling classified documents. Speaking at the Georgia Republican Party convention, Trump asserted that the prosecution by the Biden Justice Department was an egregious abuse of power aimed at thwarting his frontrunner position for the GOP presidential nomination.

Trump dismissed the charges against him as politically motivated and implicated President Biden in the decision to pursue the indictment. He condemned the indictment as a “ridiculous and baseless” act by the “weaponized Department of Injustice” under the Biden administration, characterizing it as a horrific abuse of power and a travesty of justice.

The former president suggested that Biden was attempting to divert attention from an ongoing investigation by congressional Republicans into his family’s overseas financial transactions. Trump alleged that Biden orchestrated the indictment in retaliation for the revelation of explosive evidence suggesting that Biden had accepted a $5 million illegal bribe from Ukraine, which coincidentally emerged on the same day as his indictment.

During his speech, Trump offered a glimpse into his agenda for a potential second term, outlining plans for what he called the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, the elimination of birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, the prohibition of federal funding for schools teaching Critical Race Theory and promoting what he referred to as “transgender insanity,” the rejection of vaccine and mask mandates, and the exclusion of biological males from participating in women’s sports. Furthermore, he pledged to investigate district attorneys across the country for what he alleged to be illegal and racially biased enforcement of the law.

Trump criticized his GOP rivals for the 2024 nomination, asserting that he was the only candidate capable of dismantling the corrupt system. He specifically targeted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, describing him as a follower of former House Speaker Paul Ryan and warning that DeSantis’s proposed national sales tax would burden average Americans with substantial tax increases.

Trump contended that the indictment was driven by recent polls indicating his potential victory against President Biden in a head-to-head matchup in 2024. He expressed unwavering determination and vowed to continue fighting, claiming that the real target of the prosecution was not him but the American people, and he positioned himself as their staunch defender.

The speech marked Trump’s first public appearance since his indictment, which unveiled 37 charges by a federal grand jury, including 31 counts specifically related to willful retention of national defense information. According to the indictment, Trump stands accused of taking classified documents from the White House after his departure in 2021 and storing them in insecure locations at his Mar-a-Lago estate, such as a ballroom and a shower area.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, responsible for bringing the indictment against Trump, stressed the importance of enforcing laws that protect national defense information for the safety and security of the United States. Smith affirmed that violations of these laws pose a risk to the country.

Trump refuted the charges in the indictment, denying any obstruction of justice and claiming cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration during the FBI raid on his Florida residence in the previous summer. He contrasted his retention of classified documents with the cases of Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence, both GOP candidates for 2024. Trump alleged that Pence and Biden also possessed classified documents but promptly handed them over to the National Archives upon realization.

Expressing frustration with federal officials involved in his investigation, Trump called for an immediate cleansing of what he described as a corrupt and sick group of people. Special Counsel Jack Smith emphasized the pursuit of a speedy trial, potentially placing Trump, the first former commander-in-chief to face federal charges, in a courtroom amid the height of the 2024 presidential nomination race.

While former federal prosecutor Neama Rhamani acknowledged the possibility of jail time if Trump is convicted, they suggested that, as a first-time offender convicted of a non-violent crime, a judge would likely sentence him to probation.

Trump initiated his remarks in Georgia with a lighthearted comment about his legal predicament, eliciting laughter from the crowd as he joked about receiving subpoenas when flying over blue states.

  1. I read a headline last week (sorry I did not read the article) about an Air Force officer who was just imprisoned for mishandling classified documents.

Donald is likely to get an immunity. He is too popular among some cares of the day.

    • Even though he’s for forced vaccination of the poison? And even though he has no plans of draining the swamp?

  2. This bogus indictment of President Trump is to make it legal to indict and arrest former Presidents who’ve committed war crimes and crimes against humanity – which means we’ll soon hear about the crimes of all of them. And boy did they commit crimes against humanity.

  3. How does the Deep State / Cabal / Media get rid of Trump if the Russian Hoax didn’t work, the Ukrainian Hoax didn’t work, Impeach Trump HoaxES didn’t work? Now it’s Indict Trump with some “trumped” up charges.
