For a few nail-biting weeks, the fate of the 71-year old Schicks’s Bakery hung in the balance. According to industry sources, a change of ownership nearly a year ago did not quite work as planned. But now, under the management of Mendel Brach of Mezonos Maven, the bakery seems to have secured new life.
The company has retained Chaim Braunfeld, one of the old owners to continue his tradition of producing his creative line of quality of Passover products. But Mr. Brach has made some important moves to take the bakery to a new level. He opened a new modern production facility (on 63rd Street in Brooklyn) and embarked on new marketing initiatives.
According to Mr. Braunfeld, “Schick’s products will be in at least 15 Costco stores.”
It has also arranged to have the products distributed by Kenover Marketing, the highly efficient distribution company affiliated with the Kedem Food Group. Thanks to the new management, the company started in 1941 by Renee Schick has a bright future ahead of it.
