The army failed to meet the yeshiva draft quota for the seventh year running. The gap between recruits and rising quotas is growing ever larger.

2,800 yeshiva students enlisted during the 2016 draft year, the highest number ever. But 2,800 draftees was 400 less than the 3,200 draftees demanded by the 2016 quota. The gap has widened ever since 2011, when the quota stood at 1,200 draftees.

At present, the quota is not compulsory; failing to meet it has no repercussions. According to the original Lapid army legislation, quotas were to become compulsory this year. The new government delayed compulsory quotas to 2023.

  1. So why are they denying that there is a Yeshiva draft law that Peleg Yerushalmi is claiming all along?

“At present, the quota is not compulsory; failing to meet it has no repercussions.” LIES! If so, why are they grabbing Yeshiva boys who are sitting and learning and if they fail to come they arrest them from their homes in middle of the night? It’s not as if they can get a deferment or exemption because that stopped when the Tal law expired 5 years ago, in 2012.

  3. we will never have the Zionists force us to do anything against the Torah which includes serving in their treif army, daas Torah said no and that’s all we need to know.

      • Rav Shteinman Shlita never said bochurim should go to the army. Please don’t put things in his mouth. The difference in daas torah is wether to go register with the army. Please don’t spread false perceptions of Rav Shteinman’s shitos.

  4. The israeli government failed to meet the quota of children learning in Yeshiva’s by one million in the last 70 years. All these kids are in public schools with no jewish education. When the army comes to Yeshiva the yeshiva will come to the army.

  5. My learning is more important than a tank. My daven is more important than a missile. My schokling more important than a grenade. My brochos more important that a Uzi.
    You see–
    I am a fighting machine.

    • If the gedolim tell us so, that is the truth. We will not serve in idf, period, the Torah was there before the Zionists and will remain long after the Zionists imminent demise, plus what heter is there to put oneself in sakana to help an anti yiddishkeit institution?

  6. They are only arresting those boys who fail to simply come and register as “Torasam Umnasom” certifying their status as Yeshiva bachurim. This misguided kana’us – in defiance of the long standing psak of the Gedolei Yisroel of this and past generations- is the sorry stance of the attention seeking Pelegists. They are not taken from their beds in the middle of the night. They are taken from their positions blocking traffic when they protest the arrest of their fellow faction members who choose to be manhandled by the female police and soldiers and spend nights in prison with the dregs of society instead of simply walking in to the designated centers where they can sign their deferment papers with dignity and tznius.

    • The statistics are against you my friend. In the last year there were over 200 bochurim/yungerleit that spent time in military prison. Out of those 200 only 1 of them didn’t show up to register. The rest of them were following all the rules but lost their status as a yeshiva bochur for some reason or another. Also, the reason why these “misguided kanaim” boycott the Lishkat Hagiyus is because of the way the peturim are set up today. Amol it used to be that anyone that learned in yeshiva would get a petur. Today, or more accurately after the draft law was passed in 2014, it limited the amount of peturim and set quotas that are meant to be filled every year. The Vaad Hayeshivos was tasked by the Israeli army with distributing the peturim. Since they don’t have enough for everyone, a lot of times they are faced with a choice of either giving to a litvishe yeshiva vs a sefardishe yeshiva. It gets pretty ugly. So Rav Shmuel Aurbach Shlita said that he can’t cooperate with such a system that would put one jew over the other. So he along with others who supported him boycotted this Vaad Hayeshivos. So although it’s true that gedolim in the past said to get a petur, but that was in the days that there were unlimited peturim. Today they have a limited amount, because the quota needs to be filled. I hope now that I’ve educated you a little on the subject that you will have a better perception of these “misguided kanaim”.

  7. To “anonymous” who thinks those arrested are only those who don’t come and register: Over 50 bachurim are currently sitting in prison after being arrested when they came to the draft board to register for a deferral. Almost every day for the last few weeks, there has been another arrest or attempted arrest at the draft board, of yeshivah bachurim who came to arrange a deferral. By contrast, in the last 6 months or so, less than 10 bachurim have been arrested for not reporting at all.
I understand from your words that you were never at the draft office. It is, to put it mildly, not the most tzanua place in the world. It is certainly not dignified! In the draft office in Beer Sheva, where bachurim from Ashdod etc. have to report, there are ONLY female staffers.
Female police are forbidden by law to touch males; obviously they don’t always keep to this, but most of the time they actually do.
Just yesterday, there was an attempted arrest at the draft board (meaning that the military police were called in to execute the arrest – the soldiers at the draft office can’t arrest people). The “kanna’im” were alerted and a crowd gathered, and in the end, the bachur was allowed to leave, because they didn’t want to deal with the balagan.
By the way, the bachur concerned was a regular litvishe yeshivah bachur; those protesting were those “misguided” people you deride. Let’s hope you never need their “services.”
