On Sunday night, the IDF entered the Golan Heights buffer zone between Israel and Syria, following the fall of the Assad regime. Israel fears that some Syrian rebels will use the power vacuum as an opportunity to attack Israel.

The IDF warned the rebels not to cross the demilitarized zone line. At the same time, a large number of IDF tanks and infantry forces crossed into the demilitarized zone, where they took up defensive positions.

Meanwhile, Israel’s northern command raised it’s threat level and activated it’s emergency plans in the Golan in case of a rebel attack.

According to Syrian sources, Israeli Air Force planes attacked multiple sites in Syria overnight, including advanced weapons systems and weapons production facilities that Israel feared would fall into the hands of the rebels. One report claimed a chemical weapons depot of the Syrian army was also attacked.
