The order was made for the soldiers safety after two combat soldiers along the border with Lebanon and in Gaza ended up in life-threatening condition after fasting on Shiva Asar B’Tamuz while conducting operational activity.

In the ruling, the Rabbanut said that “combat soldiers in the field on all fronts, including the Gaza Strip, northern Israel, and Yehuda and Shomron, soldiers who may be called in for operational activity, and soldiers who are on guard duty must eat and drink so they could function optimally.”

    • This ruling was not made for chareidim who are not in the army but for the few who’ve become religious since they joined the army.
