After the 2014 kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers, the Israel Defense Forces began developing an application that would enable soldiers facing similar threats to alert authorities with the push of a button, Liel Leibovitz reports in Tablet.

Released this week, the GPS-based Distress Signal app would enable soldiers to immediately alert a special unit dedicated to providing a rapid emergency response.
