The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) disclosed documents on Thursday evening that were retrieved by IDF soldiers during operations in the Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, these documents reveal a coordinated effort by Hamas’ General Security mechanism to manipulate survey results conducted by the “PSR” institute. The goal was to fabricate a misleading image of public backing for the terrorist organization, particularly following the atrocities of October 7th.
“These documents are part of a systematic process aimed at concealing the collapse of the organization and the decline in public support for it. The documents highlight the importance that the terrorist organization Hamas places on survey results to falsify Palestinian support and to influence the Palestinian public as well as Arab and international public opinion,” the IDF asserted.
The documents include both the original and altered results of surveys from the “PSR” polling institute, dated March 2024. They show how Hamas altered the data to benefit the organization and its leaders, with a particular emphasis on Yahya Sinwar. The tampering was also intended to falsely suggest broad support for the October 7 massacre and other acts of terrorism.
“The documents provide no evidence of any cooperation between the polling institute and the organization’s activities; instead, they detail covert measures taken by Hamas to influence the results deceitfully by affecting local factors on the ground,” the IDF stated.
