The IDF and Israel Security Agency revealed Monday that their joint forces recently carried out an operation in Gaza City that resulted in the death of Musa Shaldan, who served as deputy commander of Hamas’ Zeitun Battalion.

Shaldan had played a key role on October 7th, acting as a company commander during the terror group’s infiltration into Israeli territory. He also gained notoriety as one of the main figures behind Hamas’ campaign of sending incendiary balloons into Israel.

Beyond his role in combat, Shaldan was involved in overseeing hostages in Gaza. He was seen publicly during Hamas’ parade at a hostage release and took part in the most recent deal that freed captives.

According to security officials, he used civilian shelters as cover throughout the war while directing attacks that included sniper fire, planting explosives, and anti-tank assaults against Israeli forces in the sector. He was also the architect behind Hamas’ combat compound strategy in the Zeitoun area.

In earlier years, Shaldan had served in various positions within the battalion, including as intelligence officer and later as deputy company commander, before rising to his senior post.
