lakewood-chaveirimMatzav.com just spoke with Chaveirim of Lakewood who asked that the following message be shared with our readers.

Those who will be traveling on the Garden State Parkway tomorrow, Erev Shabbos, Nov 6, should be aware that exit #127 going northbound on the GSP – which goes to Rt. 440 North to the Outerbridge Crossing – will be closed from 11 a.m. tomorrow morning until Sunday morning. Motorists are advised to take Route 9 or the New Jersey Turnpike.

Yidden should plan ahead and leave enough time to travel on other highways to arrive at their destination before well before Shabbos. Also note that the alternate route, Exit 13 on the New Jersey Turnpike, which leads to the Goethals Bridge, is very susceptible to heavy backups, so plan accordingly.

Remember that this is the first Friday of Daylight Saving Time, so Shabbos will begin much earlier.

In the event that one is stuck in traffic as Shabbos approached, call Lakewood Chaveirim for assistance from their Emergency Shabbos program. The hotline number is 732.370.2229.

  1. I don’t know where this information came from but it should be verified before posting. The following was taken from the State of NJ commuter website at: http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/

According to this, construction will not start until 8:00 PM Friday night until 5:00 AM Monday morning.

    Date: November 5, 2008
Project: P100.052 Northern Bridge Deck Repairs and Resurfacing
    Route/Direction/MP: Garden State Parkway / North / Exit 127
Municipality/County: Woodbridge Township / Middlesex County
Nature of work: The work includes installation & removal of catches, structural steel repair, deck joint replacement, milling, and paving. This phase of the construction is only deck joint replacement and spall repair.
During the construction period, the NB exit ramp of Interchange 127 will be closed. A detour route will be in place for motorists to access Routes 9 & 440 as well as I-287. Additionally, northbound travel lanes over the Driscoll Bridge will be reduced from eight (8) lanes to five (5) lanes during this period. Interchange 124 entrance ramp from Main Street to the Parkway north will also be closed during this time period. A detour route will be in place for motorists to access the Parkway northbound.

Proposed Start Date and Time of the Construction: The construction is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on the evening of Friday November 6, 2008 to 5 a.m. on the morning of Monday November 9, 2009.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts: It is anticipated that moderate traffic back-ups will occur during the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday before clearing in the evening hours.

  2. Is rt.35 & the freedom bridge an alternate or is the outerbridge crossing closed totaly?
Leave early, take a cellphone & GPS ( Garmin nuvi265WT has Kol Eish – american jack in set up).
Also using 7th street And/or county line or rt. 70 saves you from the squnkum rt.547 back up – unless you have empty seats, people are waiting for rides @ whipering pines.
    Say Tifilas haderech with kavanah!

  3. In Staten Island Hylan Blvd goes on the eastern side thus avoidig the traffic of the SI Expressway, so if you usse rt. 35 to get to the outerbridge crossing it may be a good altenative.
Lakewood Chaveirim is on call with data base of routes & places to stay for Shabbos, but dont be soimaich on that.
    Ah guttin Shabbos.
    NYC Hatzalah is 718-230-1000
