rami-leviAs the Fogel family sits shivah, Yidden across the globe mourn with them, still shocked and numbed by the horrific murder of Rabbi Udi Fogel, his wife Ruth, and three of their six children, Elad, Yoav and three-month-old Hadas, as they lay in their beds Friday night.

Eight-year-old Ro’i and two-year-old Shai went unnoticed by the terrorist thugs, while 12-year-old Tamar was not in the house at the time of the barbaric slaughter and discovered the horror when she returned more than an hour after the terrorists had fled.

But amidst such immense tragedy are inspiration and hope and lessons that reflect the remarkable uniqueness of Am Yisroel.

Every day of shivah in Itamar, Rami Levi, who owns one of the large supermarket chains in Israel, has been stopping by the shivah house and filling the cupboards and refrigerator with food for the family and guests.

Today, one of the Fogel relatives expressed their appreciation to Rami.

Matter-of-factly, Rami turned to the relative and said, “You will get used to my face. I have committed myself to deliver food and stock this home, each and every week, until the youngest orphan, Shai, turns 18 years old.”

Mi ke’amcha Yisroel.

  1. may hakadosh baruch hu see our ahavas yisroel and our true selfless heros and send us what we all are waiting for – MOSHIACH to stop our tzaros!!!

  2. in response to the person who asked is Rami Levy frum: what on earth does that have to do with anything? He is a kind and wonderful human being with a heart of gold! Next time think twice before you ask such a ridiculous question!!!

  3. whether Rami Levy is frum or not is completely out of context: He is doing the most wonderful and heartwarming deed that anyone could imagine. Hashem will reward him to the utmost

  4. That’s a beautiful and heartwarming story.

This reminded me of another story, not too related. There was a grocer in Williamsburg, Mr. Medelowitz. When his brother “Mr.”/Rabbi Shrage Feivel passed on, after the levaye, as the aron was being walked through the streets, Mr. M walked into a competing grocery.

Of course, an onlooker was shocked, later went into the grocery to find out what this is all about. It looked so heartless..

Turns out he went into his competing grocery to ask him to provide bread, milk etc for a poor family- who needs it for surrvival, on Mr. M’s bill, since he’ll be unable to provide through shiva.

  5. if we want mashiach to stop our tzaros we ALL need to mourn & yearn TOGETHER AS ONE-no matter what level of yiddishkeit each person is on. Mashiach cannot come without achdus (unity) & ALSO NEED TO SHOW HASHEM that we are yearning for mashiach-SADLY thats not the case (with everthing Hashem gave & continues to give ex. computers faxes, planes we have everything ETC…)

  6. “Matter-of-factly, Rami turned to the relative and said, “You will get used to my face. I have committed myself to deliver food and stock this home, each and every week, until the youngest orphan, Shai, turns 18 years old.”

And so, after undertaking an act of kindness which our patriarch Abraham would have envied, we get this penetrating question:

Is Rami Levy frum? Just asking.”

There are no words to respond to that. So I’ll just let sit out there for all to see.

  7. Dafka do the right thing, dafka do kindness, dafka etc… cos when someone does us wrong we dafka show intergity in the right way in the right time. Makes me tear eyed. Kol hakavod!

  8. Our hearts are broken at the cruelty and viciousness of the crime. We all wish we could do a chesed for the Fogel family.
Rami Levy has the zechus of performing this mitzvah. We applaud his good heart.

  9. I don’t know why everyone is getting o worked up I to am wondering is Rami Levy is frum or not since I am tremendously impressed and would love to do a Shidduch with someone is in family

  10. It’s funny how on a forum which is titled Mi K’amcha Yisroel, there is so much arguing about pettiness.
Let’s keep the achdus going and stop being so argumentative on either side. A man wanted to know if Rami was frum, but he didn’t mean harm. People are curious. Let us find the good in others and not jump on people.
Btw, people who post, although they are somewhat anonymous here, they are real people with real feelings, so let’s keep that in mind

My everyone at Matzav and its readers have a meaningful fast.

  11. attention people who were arguing if he is frum or not:it is true that it doesn’t make a difference if he is or isn’t frum–>hashem accepts mitsvos of every Jew and his tremendous chesed can for sure bring moshiach closer.BUT:we should also be careful how we talk to each other, words as “redicoulous” for example could offend a person. To bring moshiach closer we also must improve our ben odom lachaveiro>>reccepting every person,so lets all try to work on it to bring moshiach closer

  12. attention people who were arguing wether he is frum or not:it is true that it doesn’t make a difference, hasem accept mitsvos of every Jew and what that Rami took upon himself is a tremendous chesed!!BUT:we must also be careful on our speach, words as “redicoulous” can offend a person and to bring moshiach closer we must also aprove our ben odom lachaveiro,we must treat everyone with recpect.–>so lets all work on oursleves and try to bring moshiach closer!!!
