Every day that passes since the terrible tragedy on Mount Meron on the night of Lag B’Omer, in which 45 people perished, the great miracles that occurred become clearer and clearer, because even behastarah, Hashem is always there.

Reb Avraham Meir Krauss, a chossid of Toldos Avraham Yitzchak, was lying among the dead near the bags of Zaka, when he received a message from the Yeshiva Shel Maalah. “Go back. Your place is not with us. Because you do not speak during davening.”

Rabbi Yisrael Yehuda Rotenberg related: “I volunteer for the Gerer chesed organization in Hatzor. I live in Tzefas, and on Erev Shabbos we walk around Ziv Hospital and see if someone who is religious needs food to sit. This week, some fellows from Meron came. One person I met told me, “I have no clothes. Can you arrange for some clothes for me? He shows me ripped clothes hanging on the wall. He tells me that he is already in the next world and he came back because he does not speak during davening.”

Rabbi Shimon Krauss, a brother, related that “Avraham Meir remembers that he slipped with everyone else on Lab B’Omer. The Englard brothers stood next to him and shouted for help, and he tried to help them; he could not get out. He wanted to save the children but he did not succeed. Then he realized that he was losing his breath and he remembered that Brisker Rov and the Rambam said that when a person visualized the name of Hashem in his mind, one can receive salvation from heaven. The next thing he remembered was waking up in an ambulance.”

He added: “Until Sunday, my brother did not know anything. My nephew also lives in Tzefas and has a friend who works for Ichud hatzlah. He also lives in Tzefas and he told my nephew that his brother was among the dead. He came to the hospital without clothes and without a yarmulke. He said that he had ‘two legs in the next world.’”

Rav Shimon said that his brother Reb Avraham Meir published the sefer “Kavod Beis Hashem” and thousands of people stopped speaking during davening thanks to the sefer.

“We are grandchildren of the Tosafos Yom Tov, who famously wrote a tefillah for those who don’t speak during davening.”

Rav Shimon asked for people to strengthen themselves about not speaking during davening: “It is forbidden to speak during tefillah. This issue is very important. Whoever speaks does not realize the severe nature of the prohibition.

  1. Has this story REALLY been verified? I’ve heard from reliable sources that not every detail in this story is true.

  2. Only a true tzaddik could have a story like this. How many more lessons must we learn? For sure this an amazing story. Finally a clear message for us. Unless we do teshuva things like this will keep happening. Can’t we learn to not speak in shul? Kavod bais knesses is so important. So much so that it let to tach v’tat. Some say other tragedies as well. And it only gets worse over time. Kedoshim were always moser nefesh over this. Emes dictates that we should speak up and not be silent.

  3. In Eretz Yisroel, the default is that no one speaks during davening. I’m not sure what’s going on in the US or other chutz l’laretz places, but hear it would be rare and a chidush if someone spoke in davening.

  4. are u kidding me. Let’s first fix tuition, stop kicking special Ed kids out of school, stop using Torah for your own self interest, stop making yiddin feel unwelcome in your stupid little click. And work on real ahavas Yisroel,
