New York City will spend nearly $600 million per year to house, educate, and provide health and legal aid to the thousands of migrants who have come to the city in recent months, The Daily Mail reports.
The figures were compiled by the Independent Budget Office [IBO] at the request of Staten Island politicians, and were based on the 17,500 migrants that had arrived in New York as of November.
Based on those numbers, the IBO found the city will spend ‘at least’ $596 million per year on migrants, and that an expected additional 10,000 individuals would add $246 million in expenses.
The staggering figures come as the city announced it would close the Randall’s Island migrant housing center spearheaded by Mayor Eric Adams just three weeks after it opened. It remains unclear how much the city spent on the center – known as Adams’ tent city – and the occupants are being relocated to the $450 per night Watson Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

Let all those who elected the Democrats foot the bill. A sanctuary city must live up to its name.
new Yorkers should sue Biden & co for payback of these expenses
Please stop using the term migrants, they are illegal immigrants. By calling the term migrants, you are legitimizing them. They came into our country illegally, they broke the law coming here . They committed a crime, hence are illegals, not migrants.
Eric Adams wears nice suits. Could he spare me one?
