Iran: Foreign Minister’s Adviser Dies Of Coronavirus As Cases Surge

Hossein Sheikholeslam, an adviser to Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarid, died of COVID-19 coronavirus late Thursday, IRNA news agency reported.

A former ambassador to Syria, he also served as deputy foreign minister from 1981 to 1997 and took part in the 1978 US embassy hostage taking as a student.

Sheikholeslam joins the ranks of about seven Iranian officials who have succumbed to the disease, including Mohammad Mirmohammadi of the Expediency Council, which advises supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
