Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence made an announcement on Monday regarding the dismantling of a suspected “terrorist cell” with connections to Israel. According to their statement, the operation was carried out last week. The intelligence ministry indicated that the members of this network, believed to be working for Israel, had received financial support from Denmark and the Netherlands. However, specific details about the alleged Danish and Dutch involvement were not provided by Iran.

The Iranian authorities claimed to have arrested members of the “terrorist cell” in various parts of the country and seized numerous bombs and weapons during the operation. The purpose of this alleged network was said to be planning attacks in multiple locations within Iran. One of the supposed targets was the tomb of Qasem Soleimani, the late commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ Al-Quds Force, who was assassinated by the United States.

In a separate incident, four Iranian policemen were killed in Sistan-Baluchistan province, bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, during a patrol on Sunday. The local state media referred to it as a terrorist attack. The region has been prone to unrest due to the presence of drug smuggling gangs, Baluchi minority rebels, Sunni Muslim extremist groups, and incursions by the Afghani Taliban.

In an effort to ease tensions in the region, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian held talks on Saturday night with his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, seeking the UAE’s support for a peace initiative. The United States has recently bolstered its military presence in the region in response to perceived provocations by Iran against merchant vessels.
