Iraq’s prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, is finally stepping down. Shiite lawmakers said today that al-Maliki, who previously refused to relinquish power, agreed to step down after a meeting of Dawa party members in Baghdad late today.
Al-Maliki will now support the nomination of Haider al-Abadi as the next prime minister. Al-Maliki is expected to announce his endorsement in a speech Thursday night. Read more at USA Today.
