A gunman claiming to be representing the Islamic State terror group has taken hostages in a French supermarket, according to local reports. TV channel M6 reported several hostages had been taken in Trèbes in the south of France and one police officer is believed to have been shot and wounded. The mayor told a local station that there were two victims, Reuters reported.
The French Interior Ministry tweeted: “Police operation underway at Trèbes in Aude. The priority is the operation of the police and rescue forces. More information to come on this account, do not spread rumors.” The interior minister said he was traveling to the scene immediately. French media has also reported the suspect had earlier fired shots at policemen who were jogging, wounding one of them. Read more.
