Several hundred Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops will join Israel Police to enforce coronavirus restrictions in “red” areas, the army said Wednesday.
According to the IDF, 500 troops will assist the law enforcement with patrols in the worst-affected areas and in enforcing the isolation rules.
In its statement, the military said the soldiers and officers had received special training needed to operate in civilian environments. The IDF forces joining the police in the West Bank will be carrying firearms.
The reinforcements will be added to some “4,000 soldiers in mandatory and reserve duty operating to assist in the civilian areas,” the army said.
