Israel’s Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit announced Friday that he was going to file criminal charges against Interior Minister and head of the religious-right Shas party Aryeh Deri.

Mandelblit said Deri will be charged with tax-related offences, including failure to report income to the authorities.

Deri was also suspected of allocating hundreds of thousands of Israeli shekels to charities run by his family members — an allegation that could have resulted in charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

However, Mandelblit appeared to have opted for lesser offenses, dropping the more severe charges.

Deri had already been jailed for bribery in 2000, with the court handing him three years behind bars over some $155,000 worth of bribes while holding the position of interior minister.

The official denied the new charges, taking to Twitter to say he was sure they will be closed, with a date for a hearing not announced yet.

  1. Mandelblit:- Get lost & leave both Deri & Netanyahu alone, 2 innocent fellows, and let them attend to their very important work, without being hounded by your baseless allegations.

    • let the court case decide not your ‘heavenly” inspired chochma! if he’s didn’t do it they won’t find anything but I dont think they enjoy wasting time for no reason
