Israel and Jordan traded diplomatic barbs following a terror attack carried out by a Jordanian national in Jerusalem Saturday.

In a video of the attack, 57-year-old Mohammad Abdullah Salim al-Kasji, a Jordanian visiting Israel on a tourist visa, is seen stabbing an Israeli police officer in Jerusalem’s Old City. The policeman—who was stabbed multiple times in his upper torso—struggled with the terrorist, before shooting and killing him.

A dispute between Jordan and Israel erupted following the incident, with Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani saying killing the terrorist was a “terrible crime” and demanding an explanation from Israel.

“It is outrageous to hear the Jordanian government’s speaker support the terror attack which occurred today in Jerusalem’s Old City,” said a statement released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, adding, “It’s time Jordan stopped playing both sides of the game. Just like Israel condemns terror attacks in Jordan, Jordan must condemn terror attacks in Israel. Terror is terror.”

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi responded to Netanyahu’s statement at a press conference in Amman Sunday, saying Jordan’s stance opposing terrorism is “clear to everyone.”

Saturday’s stabbing attack was the fifth such incident in Jerusalem’s Old City during the past month. Following the attack, police arrested the owner of a stall near the scene of the incident for attempting to prevent civilians from assisting the Israeli police officer when he was being stabbed.
