Israel Gives $500,000 Medicine Aid for Philippines, Has Treated 999 Patients

philippines-israelThe Government of Israel has given 500,000 worth of medicines to the Cebu Provincial Government.

This was announced during a ceremony held yesterday at the field hospital established by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Bogo City.  

Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Menashe Bar-On said when nature imposes, it creates a special bond uniting peoples.

“In these moments, all of us – Israelis and Filipinos – come together as one,” Bar-On said.

Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III was thankful for the overwhelming assistance of Israel to the Cebuanos.

“I assure you that these medicines will be distributed to all district hospitals in the province,” Davide said.

As of Novermber 19, the IDF field hospital has treated 999 patients not only from the City of Bogo but also in the neighboring towns of Medellin, San Remegio, and Daanbantayan.

Col. Dr Dov Albukrek said they are treating typhoon and non-typhoon related illnesses in 17 departments from ambulatory medicine, orthopedics, ophthalmology, internal medicine, gynecology, and many others.

Albukrek said since they arrived last Saturday (Nov. 16) in Bogo, they were able to deliver 10 babies.

Manor Shpriz, a pediatrician and head of Public Health Office, said they are after the containment of infection as most of the children treated in the field hospital have wounds caused by stepping into something sharp during typhoon Yolanda.

There are also engineering teams checking on the damaged schools in Bogo and neighboring towns.
