Israel Is Not Cooperating With Ceasefire Efforts By UN, Egypt: Report

Egypt is reportedly spearheading attempts to broker a ceasefire to end the major flareup which saw over 400 rockets and projectiles launched at Israeli cities and over 150 Israeli airstrikes in retaliation.

According to diplomatic sources, Israel is not cooperating with UN and Egyptian efforts to negotiate a ceasefire to the recent flareup.

“We’re not talking with them about a ceasefire,” a senior Israeli official told The Times of Israel, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Both sides of the conflict have been urged by the international community to step back from the edge of war the past day’s violence has threatened in the largest flareup in Israel-Gaza relations since the 2014 war.

The security cabinet convened in the late morning at the army’s Tel Aviv headquarters to receive updates from the military and to deliberate how to proceed. The discussion was expected to last several hours, and it was unclear whether at the end of it the ministers would vote on the next course of action.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said repeatedly in recent days that he is interested in avoiding “unnecessary wars,” but also stressed that Israel may not have any alternative to a widespread military operation in Gaza to halt rocket attacks on Israeli civilians.

  1. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said repeatedly in recent days that he is interested in avoiding “unnecessary wars,” but also stressed that Israel may not have any alternative to a widespread military operation in Gaza to halt rocket attacks on Israeli civilians.

This makes no sense. If there are cease fire talks why does Israel not have any alternative to a widespread military operation in Gaza to halt rocket attacks?

    • Because as always, Bibi is sick in the head. He wants to curry favor with the editorial board of the NY Times with the expectations that when he finally retires (unfortunately there are no term limits in Israel, in order to keep Sefardim out of the top tier) they will bestow upon him some lifetime achievement award or something stupid like that. He wants to be loved by the nations. A real dangerous idiot.

    • @Anonymous, whats so hard to understand? a one sided (only Israel stops) ceasefire doesn’t work… from past experience and from their intelligence of the current situation they might not see how to make sure the Israeli civilians will be safe from rocket attacks without a military operation…
the UN promising to stop Hamas from firing rockets has not yielded safety and peace in the past…

  2. Because a cease fire only means giving these fogs time to rebuild!!! Do you really think that Hamas is interested in stopping??? They only say that when Israel knocks the …… out of them and they need time to rebuild

  3. Not intrinsically 5 minutes of ceasefire you either stop or we will do what is necessary till your ugly faces are tired of getting beaten

  4. when you have Gdless people running the country they don’t care about jewish lives lost, look how they sent the soldier to die in Gaza with no way out. reb elchonon wasserman called Zionists amalek.

    • In my experience the people who talk like you don’t usually care when Israeli soldiers (or certain civilians) get killed either.

I’m not saying you are that way. Just saying that this has been my experience.
