Israel Passes 2019 Budget, Closing Book On Latest Coalition Crisis

Israel’s 2019 state budget was passed in the early morning hours of Thursday, after weeks hanging in the balance of a coalition crisis which nearly brought the country to early elections.

The budget was approved by a 62-54 vote, after the coalition’s Charedi parties backed down from threats to block it in exchange for the passing of separate legislation that would exempt religious men from mandatory enlistment in the military.
