israel-syria-warWith U.S.-led military action in Syria potentially imminent, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu called a surprise meeting of the country’s security cabinet on Tuesday, apparently to discuss Syria, Army Radio reported.

Also on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began a pre-planned two-day drill in the Golan Heights involving security and emergency forces, according to Israel Hayom.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, referring to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s reported use of chemical weapons on civilians in an Aug. 21 attack in eastern neighborhoods of Damascus that killed more than 1,300 people, said Monday, “The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard, it is inexcusable and-despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured-it is undeniable.”

“This international norm cannot be violated without consequences,” Kerry added.

In light of the situation in Syria, there has been a marked increase in demand by Israelis for gas masks. Due to an overwhelming number of phone calls on Monday, the Israel Postal Company, which is responsible for distributing gas masks, said Israelis could also use its website to register to receive gas masks.

Meanwhile, Patriot anti-missile batteries in Haifa were put on alert and aimed toward the north.

  1. May Hashem spread his canopy of peace over Yerushalaim, Eretz Yisroel, and all of klal yisroel — and all of the planes flying to Uman for Rosh Hashana.

  2. To Mit a fiddle: War is NEVER fun and soldiers in the IDF only rock and roll during peace time, not when they are putting their lives at risk on the front lines. They need your tfillos not your jokes.

  3. #3 you are wrong. Just pressent your passport at the gas mask distribution center and they will give you a mask. Don’t criticize without knowing the facts. I just saw it listed on another site. And while you are at it, BECOME A CITIZEN.

  4. I called them and they said unless its a state of emergency they will not give to tourists. I told them I don’t want to wait until its imminent to first be stuck on hours long lines and only then figure out how to use it. If rather have it waiting safely in my closet. They didn’t help me though.

  5. THEY WILL NOT give them to non-citizens at this time. If there is an active war, and the home front issues commands to everyone to get one, THEN they will give them out to non-citizens with passports. But now they will not.
