Israel fired missiles into the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Chanoun on Sunday afternoon and evening after a rocket fired from Gaza fell inside the southern Israeli city of Sderot.

Some five Palestinians were injured in the airstrikes.

Maan News reports that an Israeli army spokesperson confirmed in a statement that both the Israeli air force and artillery tanks targeted two alleged Hamas posts in northern Gaza.

An Israel air force plane was used to strike the first target, while an Israel army tank was used to attack the second, according to the Israeli army.

A rocket fired by an Israeli drone hit a water reservoir and another shell landed in an open area in Beit CHanoun.

The missiles were fired minutes after it was confirmed by the Israeli army that a Palestinian rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip and hit the city of Sderot.

14 rockets have been fired into Israel thus far in 2016, Maan reports.

  1. Why is not the title: rockets fall in Sderot from Gaza and Israel returns fire. If a person quickly reads the title they will say here Israel again is rocketing Gaza. Is Matzav for or against Israel and why most news titles always in reverse? It is like blame the victim and then say, and oh yeah they were shot at first.
