The “Tehran-Damascus-Beirut axis of evil cannot win,” Defense Minister Moshe (Bogie) Ya’alon told Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey this week.
“Instability in the Middle East is a result of, among other things, the Iranian regime, which is involved in every ongoing conflict in the region. We must also be prepared for a long conflict and instability in Syria. We cannot let the Tehran-Damascus-Beirut axis of evil to win this fight,” Ya’alon told Dempsey.
“We have shared interests and shared values. I expect to strengthen the bond between Israel and the U.S., a bond which I value highly,” Ya’alon said.
During the meeting Dempsey reiterated the U.S.’ commitment to “shared security interests.” Dempsey arrived in Israel on Tuesday, as a guest of Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz.
Israel wants the U.S. to “to continue to present a credible military threat to support those diplomatic and economic efforts [against the Iranian regime],” Dempsey said, adding that “since I was here last year, we have better military options than we did a year ago.”
“That’s because we have continued to refine them … continued to develop technology, continued to train and plan,” he said.
