Israel claimed its second ever gold medal in Olympics history on Sunday in Tokyo with Artem Dolgopyat’s winning performance in the artistic gymnastics men’s floor exercise final.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett congratulated the Ukrainian-born Israeli on winning the country’s first gold medal since Athens in 2004 and the first ever medal in gymnastics.
“Thank you Artem! You made history blue and white. Congratulations to Artem Dolgopyat on winning a gold medal now at the Tokyo Olympics,” Bennett said on Twitter. “Huge pride and great excitement for all the people of Israel. The song of hope will be played immediately in the gym in Tokyo.”
It was the third overall medal for Israel so far in Tokyo. The country nabbed two bronze medals in mixed judo and women’s taekwondo under 49 kg weight class.

Why do you keep on reporting on the olympics. That’s not what yidishkeit is about. That’s what the misyavnim, in the times of Chanukah, were trying to penetrate the frum yidin with and we fought against it and won. Jews being in the olympics is not something to be proud of.
They could report on the olympics all they want, but Matzav editors please stop reporting on Israel as if it is our country. As American Jews if we have patriotism to anywhere it should be USA. The Israeli state has nothing to do with us besides for the fact that is located in Eretz Yisroel [and unfortunately not in Uganda…] The only Israeli news that Matzav, and all frum media, should be reporting is about things that affect yidden. Not news about Israel as a country and nationality.
While this gold medal winner is halachically a goy gomur, there are Yidden whose sole connection with Judaism is the State of Israel. Whether it’s their pride, or sense of belonging, some of them have no other connection. That is most unfortunate, but let’s not sever that last link to their people.
As far as Uganda, you are perfectly welcome to move there, if you aren’t afraid of being eaten.
strange. you are confusing the youth by reporting this
Thank you for keep on reporting on the olympics. Working hard toward a goal is what yidishkeit is about. That’s what the Maccabees, in the times of Chanukah, penetrated the frum yidin with and we fought and won. Jews being in the olympics is something to be proud of.
