chareidimAhead of the Yomim Tovim, the Israeli charedi public spent about NIS 100 million (about $26.7 million) on clothes for their families, according to a study performed by Mutagim Market Research for the charedi sector of Habetzefer Advertising School.

The survey was polled 500 respondents representative of 100,000 charedi households in Israel.

The survey found that charedi households spend an average NIS 1,300 (about $350) on clothes for the Yomim Tovim, while this figure reached NIS 2,500 (about $670) for about 10% of the respondents.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the most common income per capita in the sector is lowest out of all sectors. Sixty-five percent of charedi heads of household earn up to NIS 2,000 (about $530) per month. Another 12% earn between NIS 2,001 and NIS 4,000 (about $1,070). Some 6.2% earn more than NIS 4,001. An additional 16.2% are uncertain precisely how much they earn.

The massive clothing purchases during the first month of the Jewish year are, of course, tied to the Yomim Tovim during this season, as well as the imminent changes in the weather.

“The clothing field is one of the fastest-growing and highest-advertising in the charedi economy,” said Eitan Dovkin, director of Habetzefer’s charedi satellite. “You can see new stores popping up for men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes in charedi city centers throughout the country. These stores are a growth engine for the charedi economy.”
