i24 News – Israel’s military said early Tuesday it attacked targets in the Gaza Strip, destroying a Hamas weapons production plant.

The attack was in response to earlier rocket fire coming from the Palestinian enclave, amid high tensions as the Ramadan and the Passover holidays converge. No one was killed from the launch emanating from Gaza, with Iron Dome successfully intercepting the threat.

Hamas said Israel’s strike hit empty sites west of Khan Younis. The terrorist organization said it fired anti-aircraft missiles at the Israeli warplanes, which resulted in no casualties.

Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported that Hamas reached out to Israel through Egypt after the rocket, stressing it was not interested in an escalation and was not behind the launch.

While no group claimed responsibility for the earlier rocket, Israel has said it holds Hamas responsible for any attack coming from Gaza.

Southern Israel has seen a calm that has not been seen for years, Israeli officials have noted, after last May’s Gaza conflict.

This comes following a rise tensions, most recently focused in Jerusalem surrounding the Temple Mount. Israeli police arrested hundreds of Palestinians in clashes over the weekend.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Israel was doing “everything” to ensure the freedom and safety of worshipers in Jerusalem, slamming what he called incitement from Palestinians for being behind the recent escalation in the city.
