Israel’s Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel loosen restrictions on kosher cellphone plans tday and opened up the market for so-called kosher lines, sparking a backlash from some in the chareidi community, Times of Israel reports. All kosher phone users over the age of 18 will be able to retain their original phone numbers even if they transfer to a new service provider and begin using a fully capable smartphone.
Until now, if someone called from a phone service not approved by rabbonim, it was immediately apparent that the caller did not have a supervised phone number and device.
Today’s change will take effect on July 31.
Mk Moshe Gafni, pictured above, attacked Hendel on Sunday on Kol Chai radio. “Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel is trying to harm the lifestyle of the chareidi public,” Gafni charged, claiming Hendel had refused to meet with a group of rabbonim on Sunday.

A phone may be kosher but how do you eat one? The hard plastic will make it very difficult to chew on. This will severely damage the digestive tract. Ouch.
