After a prolonged closure of the tourism industry, Israel is expected to open its gates to vaccinated tourists on May 23 — on the condition they enter in groups, the Health and Tourism Ministries said in a statement on Tuesday.
Groups will arrive according to a fixed cap, to be determined by a joint team of ministries’ officials, outlet Ynet reported.
After scrutinizing the results of the first stage, along with a continuation of low morbidity rates, the government will consider expanding the entry for individual tourists.
According to the outline, tourists will be required to pass a PCR test for Covid-19 before boarding the plane, and another test when landing in Israel, as well as a serological test for antibody levels in a blood sample.
The outline is being finalized in the coming days and will be subject to the government’s authorization.
