schoolbooksNew legislation expanding school choice to students attending Indiana Jewish Day Schools passed the Indiana House Education Committee last week. Advocates for the bill included the Jewish American Affairs Committee of Indiana (JAACI) and Agudath Israel in the Midwest. JAACI is a statewide organization formed in 2010 to represent the ideas and interests of Jews throughout the state of Indiana.

In his testimony before the House Education Committee, JAACI President Elliot Bartky stated, “We believe this bill furthering educational choice is good for the Indiana Jewish Community and for all Hoosiers.” He emphasized that Jewish leaders across the state, including rabbis from Indianapolis, South Bend, Bloomington, Lafayette and Munster, support school choice.

Rabbi A. D. Motzen submitted testimony on behalf of Agudath Israel, underscoring the importance of ensuring school choice for Jewish children. “Rabbi Motzen has done a fabulous job marshaling a broad coalition across Indiana,” noted JAACI Vice President Rick Bentley. “Kol hakavod to Rabbi Motzen and the Agudah for its strong presence in Indiana” he added.

The school choice legislation (HB1003) is being co-sponsored by Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and Representative Robert Behning, who chairs the House Education Committee.

  1. “The school choice legislation (HB1003) is being co-sponsored by Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and Representative Robert Behning, who chairs the House Education Committee.”

Speaker Bosma & Rep. Behning are both Republicans.

Once again only Republicans support school choice!
