U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler has won the Democrat primary race today for the New York City congressional seat that he’s held for over two decades.

The 24-year incumbent beat Oliver Rosenberg, 30, who grew up in a modern Orthodox family in Los Angeles and attended Yeshiva University, becoming an investment banker and now leads a start-up, Prealth, in the healthcare technology sector.

With almost all ballots counted, Nadler appears to have won by some 20,000 votes.

Nadler’s 10th Congressional District includes Boro Park, Kensington, and parts of Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, Red Hook, Sunset Park and Midwood.

Nadler faced opposition from some sectors for his support of President Barack Obama’s controversial Iran nuclear deal. He was the only Jewish Democrat House member to support the ill-advised pact.

Nadler was first elected to Congress in 1992.

With his district boasting a predominant Democrat electorate, Nadler is expected to win the election in November, when he will face off against Attorney Philip J. Rosenthal.

Nadler began his career in public service in 1976 in the New York State Assembly. Representing the Upper West Side, he served as a Democratic Assemblyman for 16 years and played a significant role in shaping New York State law concerning child support enforcement and domestic abuse, as well as making major contributions to housing, transportation and consumer protection policy in the state.  In 1992, Rep. Nadler was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election and has served in Congress ever since. He was re-elected to his twelfth full term in 2014, receiving a resounding 88% of the vote.

The second-most senior member on the House Judiciary Committee, Nadler served as Chairman or Ranking Member of its Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties for 13 years and now serves as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. He is also the highest-ranking Northeastern member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and serves as an Assistant Democratic Whip.

Nadler is a graduate of Crown Heights Yeshiva, Stuyvesant High School, Columbia University and Fordham Law School. He lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wife, Joyce Miller. They have one son, Michael.

  1. It was a terrible lose lose situation. The question now,is, will there be a viable candidate from the Republican party that will run against him in the general election?

  2. The media had been focusing and eagerly watching to see how the jewish community was going to vote. Were we throw to the torah in the garbage and vote for an open..,who was/is aggressively promoting his evil?!

While jerry nadler has been possibly among the worst members of congress,His horrid opponent would have been incomparably worse.

  3. JERRY WINS: Nadler Pulls Out Victory in Contentious ?!?

“He was re-elected to his twelfth full term in 2014, receiving a resounding 88% of the vote.”

  4. Nadler was the less of the two evils. I saw ads locally claiming over a dozen groups supporting nadler opponent. I was shocked.

  5. In terms of
    relative evil,

the Open Othodox ( who Matzav regularly decry) would seem almost to be charedim, compared to Nadler’s Opponent

  6. ” he can admit that the Iran deal was a mistake”

I didn’t support the deal but in retrospect it was the right thing to do. Iran will not be producing nuclear weapons at any time in the foreseeable future and it is the deal that lost them the capability.

    • If it’s a Democrat,Mr. Hall you will always see no evil or hear no evil, I can’t blame you the Democrats are such wonderful moral Jewish loving people and supporting them blindly is definitely the right thing to do

  7. turnout was understandably low (terrible choice) if there’s strong orthodox turnout in November for Phil Rosenthal (R) together with a solid campaign there’s a chance…

  8. Jerry, please move to Iran where you belong, and keep sharing your brilliant anti-Torah insights on your Twitter account.
