ikey-horowitzA South Florida family is grateful their child escaped with only a sprained ankle after being hit by a truck.

Five-year-old Ikey Horowitz and his father were going to shul in Surfside on Shabbos, when the child was hit by a truck.

Surveillance video shows a white truck driving down an alley way. Next, the video shows Ikey riding along the sidewalk on his scooter. Without seeing the boy, the truck hits Ikey.

Yossie Horowitz, the boy’s father, was just feet behind his son and sprang into action. Horowitz banged on the truck to stop so the back wheels would not run Ikey over. The truck stopped and the driver got out. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was pretty shocked. My stomach hit the floor,” said Yossie. “I just ran and tried to pull him out before the back wheels would hit him as well.”

Ikey only suffered a sprained ankle in the accident. The family believes it is a miracle their son survived, without major injuries. “It’s amazing that all he has is a sprained ankle. I mean, I would be saying he was lucky to be alive, but beyond that, I’d be saying he was lucky he had broken legs, but he’s lucky he’s got a sprained ankle and he’s pretty much healed already in 48 hours. I mean, it’s pretty miraculous,” said Katy Horowitz, Ikey’s mom.

The video camera that captured the entire incident sits on top of the synagogue. After seeing the video for the first time, Ikey’s parents say it was an absolute miracle their son survived. “It just shows the fragility of life and it shows the preciousness of life and just how you take so much for granted,” said Katie. “We’re talking an inch and we’d be having a very different conversation right now,” said Katie.

Days after the accident, Ikey chalks it up to, “My angel.”

The family is now simply grateful Ikey is safe. “It’s not luck, you know. There’s somebody, somewhere,” said Katie. “It’s not just us watching over him and that’s for sure.”

“Riding along the sidewalk” – on Shabbos??

  2. Prayers for Ikey Horowitz. Thank G-d he was ok. We sometimes all forget the number of times G-d protects us every day from the dangers in the world. The more mindfulness on the Planet the better I say. Awareness and truth are the antidotes to the poison of denial and lies.

  3. Everything is min HaShamayim! B’H, that this little boy is fine. May there be many nissim for all of the bnei Yisroel. We are entering the Geulah!
