French National Police aggressively detained a man from Hell’s Kitchen after he attempted to take a photograph with an Israeli flag outside an Olympic venue, according to The NY Post.

Neil Frias, who is Jewish, recounted that he was taking a selfie with the Israeli flag outside the Olympic Aquatics Center in Saint-Denis, a Paris suburb, when three officers began questioning him, asking if he was “inciting a riot, or a protest.”

The officers insisted on knowing the reason behind his photograph, as detailed in a complaint filed with the Inspector General of the National Police regarding the incident on July 30.

The officers confiscated Frias’ phone and “tried to rip” his flag, the complaint states.

After checking his passport and confirming he had a ticket to the France-Japan water polo match that afternoon, Frias, 35, was allowed to leave.

However, about 15 minutes later, while Frias was waiting in line at the venue’s main entrance to have his ticket scanned, a different group of five officers suddenly tackled him, according to his account.

Frias asked in French why he was being arrested, and one officer reportedly replied that it was due to his “resisting,” as per the complaint.

The officers pushed him against a tree and then dragged him by his feet to their van, causing bruising and bleeding, as documented in the complaint and photos provided to The Post.

“I came to Paris to support the Israeli team and be proudly united with the Olympics,” Frias, who had volunteered with the Israeli Defense Forces for three months before his trip to Paris, told The Post.

“I am deeply disheartened with the fact of how the French National Police treated this whole situation and psychologically abused me.”

At the Saint-Denis police station, where Frias was held for 27 hours, officers reportedly demeaned him by telling him to “go drink the toilet water” and taking pictures of him with their phones, according to the complaint.

Frias mentioned that it took several hours to get a translator, who spoke Spanish, to explain his rights to an attorney.

He had to wait eight hours before receiving medical attention, where a doctor diagnosed him with a sprain at the top of his spinal cord and a fractured rib.

Frias faces charges of violently resisting arrest and trespassing at a sports venue while intoxicated, as stated in a criminal summons. He denies both allegations.

“I cannot restrain myself from thinking it has something to do with him taking one picture of himself with an Israeli flag,” Frias’ lawyer, David Cazeneuve, said, expressing frustration over the fact that several anti-Israel protesters who waved Palestinian flags and booed the Jewish state during its match against Mali were not immediately arrested like his client.

“There have been very odd things on this side.”

  1. Ther were two counts against this poor fellow–The French catholics hate Jews and the country is overrun by Jew hating muslims, probably some of whom serve as police. Don’t forget the cowardl Vichy France who collaborated with hitler and the french gov’t that treated Arafat before he died (most likely) of AIDS. In any event, IMHO there’s no reason to set foot on that accursed soil,Olympics or not.
