Forty families living in caravans in the outpost of Amana, the largest outpost in Yehudah and Shomron, turned down a government offer to move to a larger settlement despite a Supreme Court order that they must evacuate their homes by December 25. The Amana Jews said that the community’s official leader, Zev Heber, who agreed to the scheme, does not represent them.

Haaretz reported that the Defense Ministry was planning a new settlement for the Amana Jews with 139 housing units in a scheme similar to alternative housing and financial incentives provided to the residents of Migron and the Ulpana outpost of Beit El.

“Zambish [Zev Heber] doesn’t represent us,” they said. “We explained and clarified dozens of times to Amana and its leaders and to the Defense Ministry and others that we won’t evacuate. They won’t buy us off with money or real estate. We’re happy to hear about the establishment of a new community in Yehudah and Shomron, but let everyone be clear about something: it’s not for us and it’s not going to come at our expense.

“This is an opportunity to clearly state to anyone who tries to sell us out behind our backs: we will not play along. We’re not anyone’s toy soldiers. We’re here for good, to create a new situation. Gone are the days of demolishing Jewish communities in Israel and expelling Jews from their homes.”
