Lee Zeldin has become the first major gubernatorial candidate to defend yeshivos from the current SED led attack. Zeldin is a Jewish four-term U.S. Congressman from Suffolk County, who is expected to be the Republican candidate for Governor in the upcoming election.
In a pre-Pesach interview with Hamodia, Zeldin declared, “As someone who attended nursery school in a yeshiva in Brooklyn where my mother was a 4th grade teacher, I’ve personally had the opportunity to appreciate the high quality of a yeshiva education,”
“I am all in to defend parents, to defend students, to defend yeshivas that are providing a quality education. Government wants to get more involved in what is an outstanding quality education. [But] you shouldn’t at all break something that is working extremely well….bureaucrats in Albany, who, whether they’re bored or they have ulterior motives, are choosing to sabotage what is an outstanding, quality education.”
The NYS SED has proposed new regulations for private schools. The rules effectively exempt Independent Schools and Catholic Schools, leaving only Yeshivas subject to the new regulations.
Orthodox educators hailed Zeldin’s remarks. In response to the Zeldin statement, Richard Altabe, a respected educator and HALB Principal, said, “The best response to this strong statement is for neighborhood groups to endorse Zeldin for Governor. Given that this issue is existential not simply financial, we should go all out for those who support Yeshivas. The tide is certainly on Zeldin’s side right now and our efforts will certainly help.”
Other Gubernatorial candidates have yet to take a position on this issue, which is critically important to Orthodox Jews statewide.

Regardless of what your party affiliation is, we’ve got to get rid of the corrupt UNELECTED Hochul Family, both Kathy and ($1 billion tax dollars Buffalo Bills stadium) William!
Why would he care if our boys grow up having a terrible spelling and even a worse vocabulary. He wants to become Governor, and that’s it.

Lee Zeldin is a classic RINO. He will capitulate to the democrat led State Senate and Assembly. Rob is a true Conservative who will stand up to the corruption in Albany and won’t apologize for it.
