The Walt Disney Company said on Monday that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will resume broadcasting Tuesday, ending a one-week suspension prompted by his monologue about Charlie Kirk’s killing.

Disney explained in a statement that production was paused last Wednesday “to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.” The company also admitted that “some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.”

Executives said they held extended conversations with Kimmel over the past several days before deciding the late-night show could come back on air.

ABC’s suspension came after Kimmel suggested that MAGA activist Kirk was killed by fellow supporters of President Trump — even though investigators reported the suspected shooter had a history of left-wing activity online.

Michael Eisner, the company’s onetime CEO, sharply criticized the suspension, accusing Disney of giving in to “out-of-control intimidation” by federal regulators.

ABC affiliates, including Nexstar and Sinclair, had threatened to pull the show unless the network acted. At the same time, FCC Chair Brendan Carr warned Disney that it could face closer regulatory oversight if no action was taken.

During the suspension, Disney filled the slot with reruns and special programming. The company has not indicated whether the show will undergo any changes to its format or editorial rules.

Kimmel himself has avoided issuing a detailed response, limiting his public comments to brief posts on social media.

It remains uncertain whether Kimmel will apologize for tying Kirk’s alleged assailant to the MAGA movement.

Sinclair, which operates many ABC affiliates across the country, demanded that Kimmel publicly apologize to Kirk’s family and make a donation to Turning Point USA, the conservative group Kirk founded.

Since Wednesday’s halt, Disney and Kimmel have been in ongoing discussions about the show’s future. Reports indicated the sticking point was whether Kimmel would issue a direct apology — something he has resisted — or opt for a clarification of his remarks.

Insiders previously suggested Kimmel believed he owed no apology.

The outcome reflects Disney’s attempt to juggle concerns about staff security, advertiser unease, and affiliate threats with its broader corporate agenda, including major sports and media ventures.

The company is currently pursuing regulatory clearance for an NFL deal estimated at $2 to $3 billion.

Industry reports note that Disney executives are determined to avoid escalating political fallout while ensuring that Kimmel returns in order to maintain ABC’s late-night lineup.
