A US judge issued a ruling on Thursday demanding the Iranian government pay $1.45 billion in restitution to the family of a former FBI agent who was allegedly abducted by the Islamic Republic in 2007.

The US government assesses that Robert Levinson was captured and held captive by the Iranian regime during an unauthorized CIA mission on the island of Kish located in the Persian Gulf. The US thinks that Levinson died while being held captive by Tehran during the past year.
