Trey Trainor, Chair of the Federal Election Commission, in an interview on Newsmax TV on Tuesday questioned whether Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., the Democratic vice presidential candidate, was acting improperly while appearing in Ohio on Saturday.
Trainor told “The National Report” on Tuesday, after watching a clip of Harris speaking to a line of voters through a megaphone in Ohio, that electioneering is “trying to garner votes outside of a polling location while an election is taking place, while voting is actually taking place in a polling location. Most states have a distance marker, in some it’s as short as ten feet,” but “most have it at about a hundred-foot line and it usually is from the actual polling location itself, so, where the actual ballot is being cast, a hundred feet from there.”
He added that in the video clip, Harris is “clearly outside,” a polling location, but then said, “I can’t tell in the video where exactly the polling location is to know where she is relation to that. But, if she is within the hundred feet then clearly she is electioneering … and in most states that would be a crime.”
