  1. Can someone please enlighten me. There is another such establishment on coney island ave ave L in Brooklyn also under the ok, owner isnt Jewish. how can the ok keep a hechsher considering the same thing can/will happen.

  2. This is a pretty bad letter. Firstly, there is no signature on it. No one is taking any responsibility. Second, they are saying this for sure went back 6 months. I would guess, that it went on even longer then that. The question is how did it go on so long in noticed?? This is a major breakdown in modern day Kashrus. It can only be described as neglect. I’m not an overly frum or yeshivish person. I ate there last week and I’m sick to my stomach at the thought of eating trief. If you ask me, the OK should shut down. They obviously cannot control their establishments. It kind of makes me wonder what other issues they have in their factories.

    • They are not saying it went back for sure at all. They are only saying that on the very slim chance that this owner somehow tried (not certain at all) and actually succeeded in getting the treif chicken into the store (as opposed to buying it for use elsewhere), the farthest back that there may have been a problem would have been six months. There is no indication at this time that the OK (or even the owner) did anything wrong. However, when it comes to kashrus, we must err on the side of caution.
Please allow time for the facts to come out rather than rushing to judgment based on an internet article.

  3. The letter from the “O-K” says the establishment is no longer under supervision, I don’t think the mashgiach was doing much there if the problem goes back 6 months

  4. YUdel Shain from Lakewood was the original Hashgocha on the Manalapan chinese restaurant and the owner was KEN. Reb Yudel then brought in the OK as it was located in an area that may have needed a National name hashgocha as well. Reb Yudel did not allow the owner to have a key to the restaurant.

The Mashgichim had a number of serious kashrus issues, they called DYL of the OK, to pull the Hashgocha.

Soon after KEN sold it to his Cousin Henry.
The family has two kosher chinese restaurants in Brooklyn, one in Fairlawn, (one in Elizabeth) one non-kosher in philly. FYI- There is a restaurant Depot right near the non-kosher restaurant in Philly.

Soon after that, Yudel’s Mashgichim left the place and were replaced with the current one.

Every year before Chanukah, Yudel put on his blog a warning not to trust the Manalapan Chinese Restaurant

Reb yudel was there at least twice a week to inspect and check on the mashgichim if they are on top of the situation. Reb Yudel even forced the owner to dismiss his own mother as she was not complying with the mashgichim.

Two years ahead Rabbi DYL of the OK decided to allow the owner to have keys to the restaurant.
At that point, Reb Yudel notified DYL and KEN, that he’s leaving.
    The rest is history

  5. Am really mad, I paid for kosher and I got treif , I got stiffed by the store and I got stiffed by the kosher supervision organization. You can’t trust anyone nowadays, I will start asking to see the actual stamp on the meat from now on.

      • If you believe what you just said, then you have completely forgotten the Monsey meat scandal. Are you planning on raising and schechting your fleish and not depending on others? Eating at home has kashrus concerns, major concerns and it’s not just from the shikser.

  6. This is a huge blow to the Jewish community here in Manalapan. For years we have used Kosher Chinese for so many events and it was a real pride us. A bitter pill to swallow. Hopefully someone can revive this location

  7. This is NOT the same owner as the brooklyn Chinese.

But this response from OK is very stetchy, they are hiding something from us so I can’t trust them until they decide to be more open about this issue.
Halacha say if you are not sure you don’t have to kosher utensils, especially since some people may have to throw dishes out and so on,, so they know something but aren’t telling us.

I emailed OK and will wait for their explanation.

  8. עיני עיני ירדה מים
    כי רחק ממני הקרבת הסין
    מי ינחמני על סין האבוד
    נשי סין בשלו שממני טריפות
    הקרבת הסין מנחם נפשי

    …על אלה אני בוכיה

  9. I live in the deal area & I tried ordering from there about a month ago, they have 100.00 min. My total was 97.50 & I offered to give the extra to the driver. They didn’t understand & we ended up fighting & wouldn’t deliver to me. Ty Hashem for the protection.

  10. Here is a true story which happened 40+ years ago and within 60 minutes of Lakewood.

A non-religious Jew had a hashgocha for his restaurant. He hired a kid named Chris to work in the deli restaurant. Chris was a high school classmate of my non-religious niece.

One day, Chris shared with my niece, “I do not understand my boss at the deli. He buys his meat at the market next door and pays retail prices. My father is in the wholesale meat business and could sell him meat at wholesale prices, but he refuses to buy from my father.” My niece immediately realized the problem.

My niece told my sister-in-law, who called us. I immediately contacted the Rav HaMachshir and related the story. He did not withdraw the hashgocha. I related the story to a famous kashrus expert who told me, “When they started that hashgocha, they asked me if they needed a mashgiach tmidi or whether a yotzei v’nichnas was sufficient. I told them that min hadin a yotzei v’nichnas was sufficient. However, I advised them that as more kolel families move in the area, they had better upgrade to a mashgiach tmidi.”

Several weeks later, the rabbi’s wife was shopping in the market next to the deli and she observed the deli owner making food purchases, including chicken and beef. She watched him check out and surreptitiously followed him out of the market. He carried all the food into his deli. Within a day, the rabbi had withdrawn the hashgocha.
