At the behest of Agudath Israel of California, this past Friday, Assembly Bill 2457 was introduced in the California Legislature. This legislation would allow the use of digital radiologic technology in lieu of an autopsy, especially in cases where the postmortem procedure is mandated by law.
The bill, carried by Assembly Member Richard Bloom, came about following a series of meetings between Agudath Israel, the San Bernadino Sheriff, Coroner “Rockey” Shaw, and Los Angeles County Coroner Dr. Mark Fajardo.
It is expected that the California Coroner’s and Sheriffs Associations will join in supporting this effort once they have gone through their internal processes.
